Bosch TV Series – A wonderful adaptation of Michael Connelly Books

Dear Friends,

Through this post, I want to introduce you to the wonderful world of writings of Michael Connelly, his fictional character Harry Bosch and the TV series based on his books.

I am currently Bing watching the Bosch TV series. It has been there on Amazon Prime now for a very long time. But somehow, I did not start on that yet.

I am a die- hard fan of Michael Connelly and have read most or all his books and in particular the Harry Bosch series. Starting with the first publication, The Black Echo, in 1992, there have been 23 Harry Bosch books and I have lapped them up all while eagerly waiting for the next one.

I got hooked on to Harry Bosch exploits during last eight years or so and I was wonderfully aided in the process by a quaint little library, The Book World, located at Anna Nagar in Chennai city, in which I have been a proud member for many years. The kind gentleman, managing the library always remembered my likes and I was the first one to know, whenever the library added a New Bosch in the collection.

In His Books, Michael Connelly introduces to us, Hieronymus Bosch, a LAPD Homicide Detective. A great detective, who did not hesitate to go against the rules and never gave a damn about the departmental politics in his relentless pursuit for justice for victims. Abiding principle in his life is “Everybody counts or Nobody Counts” and this aspect is reiterated in all his books.

I somehow had an opinion that no TV series can do justice to the beauty of Harry Bosch books. That is one of reasons, which took me so long to get around to watch this series.

Now that I have started watching, I cannot have enough of it. During my reading, I had formed a physical outline of the character in my mind. Titus Welliver, who plays Harry Bosch character, though did not exactly match that image, but he has done ample justice to the character of Harry Bosch. You can feel the same intensity in the TV character as you do with that of Hieronymus Bosch in books.

You would certainly fall in love with the way he gets the Coffee going, his house on the hill and the view of the valley from there and his love for jazz over a chilled beer. I would like you to figure out on your own, his preferred beer brand, though he does have a penchant for Fat Tire at times.

With subtle changes in the plot and storyline, the series does very well to give you the adrenaline kick as expected from a good Whodunit, even if you have read the books.

The series takes you through a wonderful Harry Bosch journey and if you have read the books, you will have additional joy in meeting and getting introduced to all other character’s, whom you have known all these years. Jerry Edgar, Lt. Grace Billets, Maddie, Eleanor Wish, Irvin Irving and many more.

I will stop here before, in my eagerness, I start to give any spoilers.

Happy Binging Folks and do share your thoughts and comments!!!
